![]() I may end up doing as you recommend, i.e., having a separate boot drive. kind of forced into it.Īnd, I'm retired now and farming full time and I can't afford ArchiCad anymore. ![]() So, I'd like to have all of those functions working again on my desktop, but that means that ArchiCad no longer functions. I host a database for my sheep that is synced with my iPhone, and I was having real compatibility issues with that as well. Pages and Numbers can't swap out documents with the other devices. The email on my iMac just continually crashes. I upgraded to Mojave because my email, Pages, and Numbers are having issues because they aren't in a compatible state with my iPhone and iPad. I couldn't clone it onto a new hard drive. I tried to clone it with Carbon Copy, but you get an alert that Apple's code is copywritten and can't be copied. It is still sorta working sometimes, but given that a whole rewrite takes 5 hours, I'm very nervous about trying to go back to Sierra based on this hard drive. After the install, it won't even mount sometimes. My "BackUp" drive started failing right after completing the upgrade to Mojave. You are probably familiar with Time Machine. I haven't done the Parallels conversion, yet. But, backups always recommended before any major changes anyway. Have never installed an old version on top of a working installation before, so don't know what would happen. Since you created the VM from installation media, I assume you can backup your iMac, reinstall Sierra, then restore any missing user files.? I know nothing is lost when reinstalling the same MacOS version or moving forwards. If you have any possibility of restoring your iMac to Sierra, or reinstalling Sierra, that would be the best option if you need to remain on AC 19. but I've found that that doesn't perform very well either. You can also create a Windows virtual machine (requires a 64 bit Windows 10 license) and install the Windows version of AC in that VM. Conceivably you can share the applications folder with the VM and launch the app that is stored on the iMac's drive vs installing into the VM's virtual drive - but I'd not recommend that. You would be better to reboot your iMac from a bootable Sierra partition, but it sounds like it might be too late for that.įor your questions: Yes, you have to install AC 19 in the virtual machine - or at least download and install the WIBU driver - and then assign the USB keyplug device to the virtual machine (devices can only be connected to the host or a VM - not both at the same time). The MacOS VM does NOT run in Safe Mode - rather, Parallels just does not offer much in the way of virtual graphics acceleration, regardless of how powerful your host iMac's graphics adapter might be. It works - and is useful for running an old version to help with a conversion, or just to open an old project - but I've found it not usable for normal work. ![]() The main issue is graphics acceleration - whether it is a MacOS or Windows virtual machine. ![]() ARCHICAD under Parallels Desktop is not something I'd recommend based on a few limited tests of my own over the years. ![]() Ephemeral development environments1/8/2024 ![]() ![]() Your source code management system (i.e., Github) can also be viewed as part of your development environment since it merges your code with the main branch, runs tests, and provides feedback. With containerization, the developer’s own machine, the local environment, can now easily serve as the development environment in that regard. At one time, it referred to a separate environment where code changes were merged with the main branch for the first time. The term ‘development environment’ can mean different things for different teams. Here you can make code changes and see the effects immediately, creating a tight feedback loop for efficient development. Development occurs within an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) on your computer. The local environment where code is first written and debugged is essentially the first test environment in the deployment pipeline. Let’s take a closer look! Local environment/development environment Each type of test environment has its own disparate database, some with data more closely mirroring production data than others. Ephemeral environments give you more flexibility and can reduce costs, but even static environments can be scheduled to shut down during off hours to reduce spending. A test environment can be a long-standing environment that is always available, or it can be ephemeral, spun up just for your code branch. What is a test environment?Ī test environment is simply a place to test code before pushing it through to the next stage in the pipeline, and reliable test environments are critical for rapidly delivering stable code. You’ll also need to run the appropriate tests at each stage, but ensuring that you have access to suitable test environments is your starting point. To be clear – the test environments are only the first step. Not every team has or even needs every environment, but it’s important to understand the differences so that you can pick what’s best for your team. This post redefines test environments for today’s modern development organization. We haven’t changed everything, but we’re really close! Testing has moved from manual to automation, and we’ve shifted from dev and ops operating independently to implementing DevOps best practices. The software development life cycle has changed from waterfall to more agile approaches. Software has moved from running on-prem and in data centers to running in the cloud. The concept of test environments has changed drastically over the past decade. Before you can push the new feature to production, you must thoroughly test your code, and to do that, you need access to the right environments. Until then, you are stuck in the land of “it works on my machine,” a place no developer wants to be. However, you are eager to see if it works in the real world, where it will be integrated with other code changes. Imagine you complete a new feature, and it works perfectly. The quest for access to stable test environments was once a universal struggle for development teams. ![]() Hello neighbor book1/8/2024 ![]() Peterson in the attic of his own house, the Guest clearly being protective of it with a red lock, like Mr. The Guest is shown locking what Quentin presumes is Mr. The Guest fights the Man in the Hat but then captures Quentin/ Beatrix. Nobody is going to close to HTH and then stop and stand there while the bowman disengages and reloads 4 shots! Even Orlando Bloom got one shot at a time, mostly. The "ranger takes 5ft step back" is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Isn't this vastly more realistic than the alternative? Historically, bows have been mostly effective on the battlefield, not so much in single combat where the target is dodging and weaving toward you. By the time he is done hitting the fighter with his first arrow, the fighter has most likely covered 50% of the distance it takes to travel to the ranger. Round starts with ranger shooting an arrow. Ranger uses a bow and fighter goes melee. There is also a mod that ports BG2 to IWD2 engine (and 3E ruleset). ![]() I loved IWD2 and both of the Neverwinter Nights games. But if you find a suitable "power build" that works for you, then you can enjoy all the games a lot. Small things like these end up making it a completely different experience than when playing the real rules. Wizards on the other hand should use all their spells to buff (they should do that in PnP also, but it gets emphasized, since there is only combat spells available). No matter what you do, a melee character will do way more and be more efficient (and possibly even deal more damage in ranged combat) than you will. For example, I could not really recommend a bow using character. They just base too much emphasis on what does not work in the rules. They are not really designed to be real rules of battle. Most of the problems come from trying to adapt the mechanics to real time. Especially the AoO problems are bad in NWN. 2E rules are a lot more forgiving (I dont think they had AoOs, ranged just got penalty when shooting to melee etc.) and damage difference between weapons smaller (above 18 str plays a big role though). And its not only due to RNG like it is in BG. I can almost guarantee you will get your ass handed to you in the first few fights. ![]() I suggest you to try Temple of Elemental Evil, where 3E rules have been implemented quite well and you'll see what I mean. And then the juggling of moving and then attacking instead of doing a full attack sequence etc. There is a major difference there on how effective ranged combat is. Now if the ranger would have decided not to take a 5ft step away from the fighter, he could have shot once, provoked an attack of opportunity and then just finish the rest of the attacks he has, and the fighter would only get to hit back once (one AoO/round, unless they got combat reflexes and high dex). 2 rounds done, 8 arrows by ranger, 1 attack from fighter. After which the ranger would do a 5ft and shoot his full sequence again, 4 attacks. Then the fighter would most likely charge and hit once. The ranger could most likely go first, shoot his full 4 attacks + any bonuses he might get. ![]() Now by the time the second shot hits from the ranger, the fighter is already in melee range, bashing and gets a free hit every time the ranger shoots. Round starts with ranger shooting an arrow.īy the time he is done hitting the fighter with his first arrow, the fighter has most likely covered 50% of the distance it takes to travel to the ranger. Ranged combat and attacks of opportunity are good examples. A lot of the mechanics have been balanced around the turn basedness. 3E does not work too well when it is not turn based. The four foundations (light rectangles in the upper right of the figure) are built up by suit from Ace (low in this game) to King, and the tableau piles can be built down by alternate colors. The remaining cards form the stock and are placed facedown at the upper left of the layout. The topmost card of each pile is turned face up. The first and left-most pile contains a single upturned card, the second pile contains two cards, and so forth. From left to right, each pile contains one more card than the last. Klondike is played with a standard 52-card deck, without Jokers.Īfter shuffling, a tableau of seven fanned piles of cards is laid from left to right. It is considered the most popular version of solitaire. Klondike's inclusion in Microsoft Windows in the 1990s contributed significantly to its current popularity. In the 1913 edition of the so-called Official Rules of Card Games, Seven-Card Klondike has become Klondike, with the modification that the pack is run through one card at a time instead of three, and the original Klondike is now being called Canfield. Hoyles calls it a simpler version of "Klondike", also described in the same book, but which turns out to be a gambling version of the game nowadays known as Canfield in the US and Demon elsewhere in the world. The earliest rules for the game known as Klondike today appear in the 1907 edition of Hoyle's Games under the name "Seven-Card Klondike". History Īccording to Tung (2015), the game may well have been named "Klondike" after the Canadian region where the Klondike Gold Rush happened in 1896–1899. Likewise the rumour prevails that this other game was devised by Richard Canfield even though Canfield himself called his game "Klondike". Today, however, Canfield is more usually the American name for the patience game called " Demon" in England, which is a different game altogether. Historically Klondike was also called Canfield in America, perhaps because it was a casino game at the Canfield Casino in Saratoga Springs, New York, and this is the name by which it became known in England. Elsewhere the game is known as American Patience. Equally in the UK, it is often just known as " Patience". ![]() and Canada, it is so well known that the term " Solitaire", in the absence of qualifiers, typically refers to Klondike.
